Single Balloon Enteroscopy

Small bowel cannot be reached by conventional upper endoscopy or by colonoscopy. Although capsule endoscopy can examine this part of the bowel, procedures such as control of bleeding, polyp removal or biopsy of abnormal tissue cannot be performed. By the assistance of a silicon overtube with an inflatable balloon fixed to the distal, radiopaque tip, the doctor can examine and perform therapeutic procedures with enteroscope in the small bwoel. Single balloon enteroscopy is an advanced endoscopic procedure and is performed in hospital setting.
